The Juvenile Justice Trainers Association (JJTA) enhances the field of juvenile justice by promoting organizational and individual excellence in the profession of training. Clients and funders who work with JJTA members representing the Association should expect the highest possible standards of personal integrity, professional competence, sound judgment, and discretion. The JJTA Code of Conduct is the Association's public declaration of its members' obligations to themselves, one another, their clients, and their profession.

To this end, we, the members of JJTA, commit ourselves to the following standards of conduct:

  • Contributing to the continuing growth of the Association and its members.
II.
Participation

  • Taking responsible steps to provide and/or arrange for continuing education and professional development for all staff.
  • Seeking to enhance participants' capacity and opportunity to identify and address their own training needs.
  • Using adult learning and positive climate-setting principles to ensure participants' ability to learn and take necessary risks while in training.
III.

  • Making and honoring clear professional-client agreements, including compensation, timing and method of payment, schedules and methods of communication, and assurance that unused fees are returned promptly if a client elects to stop or suspend our services.
  • Using Association offices, titles, and professional associations only for the conduct of official business.
  • During the course of conducting work on behalf of the Association, making the Association's role clear and prominent, and not soliciting related personal work.
  • Not presuming a client's endorsement without obtaining explicit approval.
  • When using Association-produced materials and resources, ensuring that due credit and any required materials fees are submitted to the Association.
  • Not disclosing confidential information entrusted to us by the Association, or by our clients or gained through our Association work, and advising the client of any circumstances that might influence our judgment or objectivity.
  • Seeking and being open to feedback from clients and collaborators.
V.
Respect

  • Treating each person in a caring and respectful fashion.
  • Obtaining education about, seeking to understand, and designing training that protects the civil and human rights of all individuals with respect to race, ethnicity, national origin, color, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, political belief, education level, value system, religion, and mental or physical disability.
  • Recognizing our own cultural and value orientations and being aware of how those orientations affect our interactions with people from other cultures.
  • Not exploiting, threatening, coercing, or sexually harassing participants.
  • Cooperating with training colleagues and with colleagues of other professions when such cooperation serves the provision of effective services.
