| The Juvenile Justice
Trainers Association (JJTA) enhances the field of juvenile justice
by promoting organizational and individual excellence in the
profession of training. Clients and funders who work with JJTA
members representing the Association should expect the highest
possible standards of personal integrity, professional competence,
sound judgment, and discretion. The JJTA Code of Conduct is
the Association's public declaration of its members' obligations
to themselves, one another, their clients, and their profession.

To this end,
we, the members of JJTA, commit ourselves to the following
standards of conduct:

I.

Service |
| |
- Using
our knowledge, experience, and skills to assist staff
in their professional development.
- Improving
public understanding of human resource development,
management and juvenile justice.
- Contributing
to the continuing growth of the Association and its
members.
|
|
II.
|
Participation |
| |
- Taking
responsible steps to provide and/or arrange for continuing
education and professional development for all staff.
- Seeking
to enhance participants' capacity and opportunity
to identify and address their own training needs.
- Using
adult learning and positive climate-setting principles
to ensure participants' ability to learn and take
necessary risks while in training.

III.
|
Professional
Excellence & Competency in Training and Staff Development |

- Keeping
informed of pertinent knowledge and competence in
the training and staff development field; providing
accurate, complete, current and unbiased information.
- Providing
services and representing ourselves as competent only
within the boundaries of our education, training,
license, certification or other relevant professional
experience.
- Clearly
distinguishing, in both written and oral public statements,
between personal opinions and opinions representing
the Association, our own institutions, or other organizations.
- Taking
responsibility and credit, including authorship credit,
only for work performed; acknowledging the work of
and contributions made by others.
- Complying
with all copyright laws and the laws and regulations
governing our work.
- Maintaining
and promoting high standards of training.
- Promoting
and facilitating evaluation and research to contribute
to the development of knowledge.

IV.
|
Professional
Excellence & Competency as a Consultant |

- Carrying
out and completing, in a timely manner and with the
highest quality, any Association responsibilities
we agree to accept; responding promptly to inquiries
and requests by mail, telephone, fax or email.
- Making
and honoring clear professional-client agreements,
including compensation, timing and method of payment,
schedules and methods of communication, and assurance
that unused fees are returned promptly if a client
elects to stop or suspend our services.
- Using
Association offices, titles, and professional associations
only for the conduct of official business.
- During
the course of conducting work on behalf of the Association,
making the Association's role clear and prominent,
and not soliciting related personal work.
- Not presuming
a client's endorsement without obtaining explicit
approval.
- When using
Association-produced materials and resources, ensuring
that due credit and any required materials fees are
submitted to the Association.
- Not disclosing
confidential information entrusted to us by the Association,
or by our clients or gained through our Association
work, and advising the client of any circumstances
that might influence our judgment or objectivity.
- Seeking
and being open to feedback from clients and collaborators.

Respect |
| |
- Treating
each person in a caring and respectful fashion.
- Obtaining
education about, seeking to understand, and designing
training that protects the civil and human rights
of all individuals with respect to race, ethnicity,
national origin, color, sex, sexual orientation, age,
marital status, political belief, education level,
value system, religion, and mental or physical disability.
- Recognizing
our own cultural and value orientations and being
aware of how those orientations affect our interactions
with people from other cultures.
- Not exploiting,
threatening, coercing, or sexually harassing participants.
- Cooperating
with training colleagues and with colleagues of other
professions when such cooperation serves the provision
of effective services.
- Treating
colleagues with respect and accurately and fairly
representing the qualifications, views, and obligations
of colleagues; avoiding unwarranted criticism of colleagues
in communications with trainers or other professionals.

| Failure to adhere
to these standards could result in removal from the JJTA Consultant
Pool. |
